I have the five LED string, which is too much for my 7ft tank, but I'd like to be able to use two of them on another tank. Can I patch in a piece of wire between the third and fourth LED in order to run them to this second tank? Is gauge of the wire important - should I match the current wire?
Doing so will definately void the warranty on both the LED string and the LSM. In addition, if you get the wires backward when you patch them, you will fry your leds and possibly the LSM module. If you don't properly patch and insulate the wires so there is no possibility they can short between each other, you will fry your LSM, LEDs, and even possibly the entire 12V power circuit on any of your other modules or apex base unit. With that said, if you are completely comfortable in your abilities to make a perfect splice, it can be done assuming the splice is done with equivalent gage wire, the splice length does not exceed 20ft and the splice is PERFECT.
You might be an engineer if...You have no life and can PROVE it mathematically.
