    Feed Cycles....

OK, I will also post a request in the 'suggested features' thread but I wanted to vent... I finally decided that I should use the feed cycles instead of manually cutting everything off and back on. My Apex controls 2 tanks ( my display tank and my quarantine tank ) and I have guests in the quarantine tank getting ready to move over.

Well I hit Feed 'A' and everything cut off so I put food in. After that I hit Feed 'B' and began to put food in.... Why did selecting Feed 'B' cancel Feed 'A' ? The controllers have 1 million timers they are tracking and nobody thought that multiple feeds cycles need to be run at a time?

    Is it just me?

I guess FeedA is for the main display and FeedB for the quarantine tank ? If you want to feed at the same time why dont you use only a FeedA and set some time delay ?

I could do that but the tanks are a very different sizes and I don't feed the same amount of time for each. I could just use one feed cycle for both but that defeats the purpose of having 4 ( A - D ) also I may not want to feed both tanks at the same time but I would be cutting the equipment off for both even if I am not feeding one of them.

This should be a simple fix as there is probably code in there that purposefully disables any running feed cycle.

Yes maybe , however you could get the same results with a BOB and some doorbell buttons to trigger those sequence individually or together .

I was just going to set up a virtual outlet and tie it to that...

Why did selecting Feed 'B' cancel Feed 'A' ?
The reason only one feed cycle can be active at a time is because the controller won't know what to do about outlet conflicts. Suppose in FeedA you want your return pump OFF but in FeedB you don't. You activate both FeedA and FeedB at the same time. What state should the return pump outlet be in?

I don't consider that valid because the outlet should do what it does in any other case which is process the commands in the order they are written i.e.
    Outlet_X
    SET OFF
If Temp > 50 Then ON
If PH > 8.7 Then OFF

If the temp is greater than 50 but the PH is 8.8 then the outlet will be in the OFF state because the last statement is to cut it off

Maybe the bus can't handle running two motors at once.

Not sure what your referring to...? The controller does not run any 'motors'. It merely needs to set a time for each feed cycle which it already has logic to do because each outlet etc.. supports a timer in the form of delays etc...

I think he may have meant the motors in the AFS.

That makes sense as it's powered off the USB bus. In my case though I am not using any AFS's. Having said that though I wonder if Neptune will retrofit any of their USB bus powered devices for the 1Link? As I can think the AFS is the only motorized USB powered device and the USB bus should be able to push sufficient juice out from the energy bars without having to do so...
