I'm not using it but I'd say try to find out from the manufacturer if it's saltwater and aquarium safe? I didn't read anything in the discription about it.

You can't use it with a BoB - it's powered. You can only use a 'dry contact' switch.

If you really want a powered optical sensor, be patient. Neptune has indicated they will offer the optical sensors that are inside the DDR container as separate items. Don't know anything more than that but their Facebook page is kind of their official marketing channel so subscribe to that and their Twitter account.

I am using optical sensors different from what you have shown. The set up should be similar. You will need a power supply and a relay module (interposing relay). Both can be found on Amazon. My sensors are 12 vdc but they have 5 vdc components as well. Links to what I've used :

Yes. You could use them for the DOS, ATO, third party dosing pumps, etc. You would need a DOS or FMM (due in 2016) when they release them for them to work.

    Optical Float switch

The break out box does have power on one of the terminal to ground. I'm wondering if this can be used for an optical sensor. I have a three wire sensors just haven't connected it.

On the other hand is there any updates on the apex optic sensor add on?

That's not a supported usage of the break-out box; it would be best to provide any necessary power in a suitable manner, such as with a AC/DC adapter outputting the proper voltage.

Thanks Russ. Do you now what the max amp draw is for that power source on the break out box? My thinking is around 0.2 ma. Also wondering if I go over will it impact the Aquabuss network.

The max as far as your warranty is concerned is zero. I wouldn't even touch it.

Understood. If an external power supply is used the ground will be common with a three wire optic switch. Any concerns?

Depends. You have a part number for the optical switch?

You actually can't connect that directly to a BOB at all. You would need to trigger a 5V relay coil between Vout and GND of this board and wore the contact of the relay into the BOB

rough sketch of the setup. Used the additional relay as 5c power confirmation input.

    Kentucky13,

How is this circuit working? I'd like to try it out. Parts of the diagram are illegible. Would you mind cleaning up your diagram and posting it again, please?
    Thank you.

I install it yesterday and it was working. Something happen during the night and MY ATO upmost was shutoff by the high level backup switch. Still trying to determine what happened.

Thank you very much for this much more readable diagram. I'd like to hear what the deal is on the ATO shutoff you had last night.

I don't understand what you are doing on the relays, especially the "5v power confirmation" part. Can you explain?

I'm assuming he wants to be notified if the board loses 5V power. My diagram above shows the proper way to do that.
