How do you guys cut those oval shape holes?
I took a structured wiring panel out of the wall in my office, and replaced it with a bigger one. It was important to me that my Apex have gigabit connectivity, and the roll-out of gigabit fiber-to-the-house in my neighborhood made the project that much more fun. Let’s just say that the home network is now “robust”.
Now, what to do with the original wiring panel? Sand, prime, paint, and turn it into Apex housing, of course!
This keeps it all in a lockable metal cabinet, completely separate from the corrosive humidity of the sump area. I put knock-out tabs in the top holes, but left the bottom and the side-top holes open for ventilation. This also keeps mischievous toddlers from inserting toys into the box!
@Marson to make the oval hole you use a hole saw and drill out two holes one for each end. Then take a saw and connect the holes to form the oval.

I wanted to have remote outlets controlled by the apex all around my fishroom so I decided I’d power the two EB832s via two dedicated 20amp circuits. I ran conduit to where I wanted the Apex to live and used 14/3 electrical wire (https://m.lowes.com/pd/Southwire-500...e-Roll/3396982) to essentially create extension chords inside the conduit. I then repeated the process for all the remote outlets.
In this picture, you can see the two main cables connecting the EB832 to the circuit. The two out lets to the left and right are on separate circuits (left or essential and right or non essential).

The essential circuit is wired to my generator transfer box and carried the “essential” eb832. This way, if I lose electric to the house, the generator will provide power to the essential equipment like heater, return pump and some circulation pumps.
On the controller board side, I installed two outlets, that are powered from the two plugs discussed earlier, that I plugged the EB832 into. I also installed inline power monitors to have a quick over view of energy consumption. I used two of these:

Once the EB832s were powered I began on planning out the wiring and on the short runs of braided cable
I used 2’ runs of 14 gauge extension chord and covered them in braided wire cover

Used big box store plugs to attach and heat shrink tube to finish the bottom

I then laid out my electrical and remote outlets and what I wanted to run and where. Then, the pain staking job of pushing and pulling wire through conduit to run what are essentially extension chords from EB832 to remote outlets
Used weather proof plugs as remote outlets
Push, pull repeat all over the room u til I got this:
Installed the large junction box, main plugs mentioned before that power the EBs and cut holes in the cover for power monitors
I then built two identical cabinets. The one you see mounted here to serve as a junction box and hide the wires
And this one to mount apex components
The front cabinet painted and mounted to the rear using over center latches I picked up at Lowe’s

The guy that did them for me moved on and I don’t work with him anymore. But he did give me a file and maybe they are on there. I’ll try to upload those files and send them to you. Plus if they are not I have my 4 prototypes you can have is you just pay for shipping if you want them. I know there are some that have used the Voss bottles and bet you could find those but mine are easy to source too.

Almost there, waiting for Trident and then hopefully finished.
Putting in a new 400 gallon system. I have 2 mounting boards.
Here is the rough layout.
They will be drilled for the cord grommets and painted bright white.
For the power bricks, we used a 3d printer to make a rack that will hold them under it.
Here are a few initial pics, will post up some others as it progresses.
It’s great seeing the fantastic front panels and controllers organized, but can someone post a picture or two of how you organize the power bricks and wires/cords BEHIND the panels? Particularly when using a false wall in a cabinet. Many thanks.
