    apex problem!

I have had my apex since they first came out with no problems. I tried hooking up a couple of expansion modules (salinity and lunar) they weren't coming up right. I figured probably needed a firmware update since mine is the original firmware. So I ran an Ethernet cable across the floor to my router now my apex is acting crazy. Turning off showing scrambled displays.... I unhooked new modules and Ethernet and same thing. Unplug it, plug it back in and it runs fine for a few minutes then the main unit just turns off!

I would try updating the firmware again and then updating the bootloader (from the display go to system -> bootloader update -> press center button)

Also make sure that all outlet names only use alphanumeric, underscore, or dash.

I never even made it far enough to attempt the update... Now it only stays on a minute or two at a time

You can update the firmware during boot with a very high success rate. Unplug the base unit. Start the update. Let it fail a couple of times, then plug the base unit back in. Rinse and repeat if unsuccessful.

im not sure how I would do that. I was following the video on the website for the firmware update, I plugged in the Ethernet cable and restarted the apex through the display then it crashed. now turns off after a minute. I lose my status light on the main unit and I cant get the green light on my Ethernet connection anymore either...

It's basically the same process as the video. Only difference is that you unplug the apex from aquabus before you click update and then plug it back in after it says it failed a couple of times.

You can just plug it into your router, or direct connect to your Mac (whichever is easier for you). Just take a note of the ip address in that few minutes it runs fine before everything scrambles.

It doesn't need an active connection to your Internet to install the FW. It just needs to have a link either directly over ethernet or through your router to your computer.

You need to input the ip address in manually. Check the display in the couple minutes that the apex is functional before the display scrambles.

manually added but just getting this...controller connect failed, controller login failed, failed unlock attempt, unable to unlock, update failed

I was trying to avoid it but should I just wipe the whole thing?

Given the behavior, it wouldn't hurt to do an initialize all.

I would send an email to support. If you can't get the firmware to take, you will have to send it in (they might be able to remote in and call you and see if they can get it to update). In the meantime, try different approaches to get the firmware to take like directly connecting it to your mac, and with or without the "boot update" that I mentioned earlier.

Every now and again they get swamped and it can take up to 24 hours for them to respond. Usually they get back to you within a couple hours, but not always.

Send them another email then and/or send a PM to Paul. You email might have gotten lost in a stack of messages.
