Android app - problem access my Apex when I am not on my home network

    So here is my status:

    1) I can access my Apex using Fusion
    2) I can access my Apex using the "classic interface" when I'm on my home network
    3) I can access my Apex using my Andoid App when I'm on my home network.
    4) I got myself a DNS name
    5) I set up my Apex (via a Netgear wireless adapter) to be a static IP address
    6) I have port forwarding enabled as per the networking instructions
    7) I ran the reeftronics Apex Network Diagnostic and get an "all green" status

Yet, if I turn off my wifi in the house I can't access the Apex via my cell phone app. I've rebooted the router and the Apex.

    Any ideas???

Are you using the same info (public IP address and port) in the app as you used when you ran the Reeftronics diagnostic test?

I believe I have it set up correctly. My app setup is as follows:

Host - 192.168.1.50, which is the IP address of the Netgear adapter I am using. It is set up as a static IP address
    Port - 80
SSID - The SSID of my home network, as provided by Verizon
WAN Host - the domain name I obtained from noip today.
    WAN port - 9900

Hey Russ, I figured it out. You are not going to believe this! I had a space after the domain name. That appears to have caused the problem. In trying to debug it, I changed the domain name to the IP address (and noticed the space). Using the IP address in the WAN Host field worked. I then changed it back to the domain name WITHOUT the space...and it worked! I'd call that a bug.

    Thanks for your help anyway!

    I'd call that user error

Glad you got it figured out!

There is one thing that does not sound right... you said that you have 192.168.1.50 in the app, and that that is the IP address of the wireless adapter. The app Host entry must be the actual IP address of the Apex. You won't access the Apex using the IP address of the adapter - you'd access the wireless adapter instead. So, just checking - if the Apex is at 192.168.50 and so is the wireless adapter then you have a misconfiguration - all devices on the same network must each have a unique IP address. If The Apex and the wireless adapter are both at 192.168.1.50, change the static address of the wireless adapter, or make it use DHCP.

In my business, we refer to it as a "PIBKAC error" - problem is between keyboard and chair. Seriously though, it would not hurt to strip leading and training spaces when parsing the field, just because it is so hard to diagnose.

On the IP address issue you raised, I am using a Netgear wnce2001. When I look at the devices on my home network via the router's software, I don't actually see the Apex. It's like the Netgear passes traffic back and forth as if it's a facade for the Apex.
