Please do not send me PMs with technical questions or requesting assistance - use the forums for Apex help. PM me ONLY if the matter is of a private or personal nature. Thanks.

No. The 50' cables you can buy on Amazon are active repeater cables which CANNOT be used with the Apex. They have repeaters (signal amplifiers) in them which are powered by the 5 volts power of USB. Aquabus carries 12v, not 5. So if you plug an active cable into an Apex, it will be damaged by the higher voltage. This link is to one such cable (which I must emphasize must *not be used* with an Apex) http://www.amazon.com/HDE-High-Speed.../dp/B00GLZYG6M

The key is right in the description: "active repeater".

USB is limited to 5m ( a bit over 16 feet) of cable. Aquabus is not USB, so that specification does not apply to Apex cables. The longest USB cables made which are not active cables are 15' because of the publish specs of USB.

The place I provided a link to earlier (usbfirewire) makes non-standard USB-like cables in longer lengths specifically and only for use with Apex systems.

If one needs long lengths to connect a spread out Apex system, there are two options: a custom cable from usbfirewire, or use multiple 6', 10', or 15' USB male-female extender cables (without any repeaters). The usbfirewire cable is preferable to many.

Is USB 3.0 cable (backward compatible to USB 2.0) ok to use on the Apex?

Don't use USB 3.0. Only use USB 2.0 without any repeaters. For long cables, you want to order from a supplier like neptune directly (for 30 foot) or USB FireWire (for longer than 30ft) to ensure no repeaters were used. If you use one with repeaters, you will burn up the cable and may even burn up your apex too.

You might be an engineer if...You have no life and can prove it mathematically.
