the smaller wav will be excellent for like tank around 2x2x2ft

plus 1.. cant beat quality of Neptune.. love my apex till date.. hoping to replace my 1 mp40 and 1 mp 10 with wav..
As others have mentioned, they seem to be working on a different version of the propeller to produce less flow.
I'm waiting on that myself.
Impeller options would seem to be the easiest option, or some sort of restrictor plate like the Sicce ones with the six holes. I just picture any plate causing the whole safety cage to blow off due to the pressure of you cranked it up though so it may not be workable.
I would think that something around 700ish gph at 1% maxing out in the 2500-3000gph range would be usable. Basically the 6055/6095/6105 market. Anything much less than that seems like maybe designing a new nano size unit sized like those Sicce Xtreams would be a better idea since you'd have this full sized pump block being shoved in a relatively small aquarium just to push a few hundred gph when there are some rather tiny controllable units out there that would probably be used instead.
I'm hoping any replacement impeller and/or cage combo would come in somewhere in the 15-25$ range per, maybe with some combo discount, or trade-in, for people who bought the starter kit.
I want to replace my current pumps, and I'd probably just keep the monster flow impellers lying around for those times I was feeling ridiculous or for when I get a new tank or convert to SPS or something. Is there any guess on a timeline? Are you thinking months of testing, or "don't even think of it happening before next year"? Obviously I'd want it done right and not rushed.
I'd also like to know if there is any further developments in reducing the amount of flow currently provided by the wav pumps.
I had followed along since the first post of "a new wave coming our way" and waited over a year before the pumps were actually available. Then rushed out and spent a lot of money on the starter kit.
I'm not a big fan of the to and fro wave action that doesn't actually move any water around the tank so my plan was to run the pumps in mavericks during the day and malibu at night to provide my 55gal tank and corals with random flow throughout the day and night.
When I finally got the pumps in my tank I messed about with position for over a week, even tried the well documented mounting on back wall bunching off the side glass trick but some discovered that at anything over 3% I'd either have a sand storm or water splashing over the edge of the tank
So basically I've spent a fortune of money for the flow to switch between 1%-3% ( both mavericks and malibu are basically the same mode now, practically constant flow with very little variation ) and I could have provided the same flow with two very cheap non controllable tunze pumps and saved around £500!
Such a pitty because the pumps are amazing quality. I wish they had of been designed to provide normal flow levels for the average sized tank.
My dream would be to be able to run mavericks at around 70-80% during the day and malibu at around 30-40%at night that would then allow for good random flow throughout the tank.
Please address the mega flow issue asap neptune, I'm sure yous would sell even more if they where more suited to the average size hobbyists tanks. If a smaller prop was avaliable as an option then everybody with either large or small tanks could use these excellent pumps!!!
I am currently planning a new 75G tank and if something were available I would probably get it. Nice as it is and as much tech porn that it is I am not getting it because it is too powerful.
I have had the opportunity to use both the WAV pumps and MP40's. I've had the WAV's for several months and have run MP40's (two of them) for about two years. I think that the WAV pumps have many advantages over the MP's, but I had to switch back to my MP's this weekend. I simply like having the broader, less direct flow. I have a 105 G tank with overflow in the middle that has similar dimensions to a 120. I have moved the WAV's in every spot I could think of but couldn't get them just right. Mounted in the back corners my Aragonite would blow around exposing the bottom of the tank in the front corners or I would have to place them on the sides of tank which created too much direct flow even at %'s like 1-5%.
I would also have to say that sitting near the tank I could always hear a very low vibration sound, almost like a car was running outside of my house. It wasn't really that annoying and I got used to it, but my MP40's were simply just more quiet with the QD drivers.
There are several advantages of the WAV's and don't get me wrong as i'm not trying to blast the WAV products as they are certainly amazing pumps, but for my size of tank and smaller IMO they may be overkill until we can get either an impeller with a lesser angle of attack or the ability to slow the RPM's down more. When that is done then I will likely go back to the WAV's as I like the minimal wire concept and the 1Link information I get about pump state even if the "Pos Error" is a little buggy right now. In addition incorporation with the COR will be pretty awesome and another reason I will probably switch back when it's released.
OR......maybe I'll just need to get a bigger tank.

I agree with russ. two pumps in some sort of an alternating or changing flow works best.
I have mine in a 60 cube and I run them at 40% when they are clean and 60% when the flow dies down but I dont have time to clean them. I would like smaller units for sure.
Any update from Neptune on this???? I am getting close to selling mine and getting some mp10s. I hate that I can't use these pumps to their ability because they are just too powerful for my tank.
We are actively looking at two options (spinning slower and impeller change) but we don't have any official news yet.

Thank you Terence for opening the kimono ever so slightly.
Thanks for the reply Terence. I do love these pumps and want to be able to use them.
Yes, please give me a reason to not have to use Ecotech pumps.

Plus 1
+1 looking for this also
I would definitely get a pair of smaller/lower powered WAV's if they became available.
Is there any update neptune???? It's been around 9 months since I started this thread and it obvious that many people have discovered the pumps are far to powerful for average sized tanks even when run at 1%. Sadly at this stage I'm very seriously considering swapping the wav pumps for two mp40 qd.
Was considering the WAV but sounds like it is a no-go for 35 gal. cube.
+1 Mine have sat in the closet for 8 months.. Too much for my 65 gallon, but love the product, just wish I could use them.

You can be creative with programming and placement. Running them in inverse for example will help. They are powerful and at first I had trouble finding the sweet spot to put them in, but now I can say after ditching the MP's it was the right move.
Tank hasn't looked better from a "FLO" standpoint.

Beautiful tank, wish mine was that full stocked
