    DYI 24v Solenoid

I built a 24V solenoid valve for my tank today using the following:
    DC24 10′ Bare Cable
24V 1/4 Inch Plastic Electric Fast Response Water Solenoid Valve
Two 1/4" Male NPT x 1/4" Push Connect fittingsl
    Some heat shrink tubing

I am very happy with how it turned out. I plan on using it as part of my ATO solution and power it with a 24v port on the new Apex. Total cost was about $36 plus shipping charges.

These WIC solenoids work great. I use the 110v versions using the older EB8 and have no issues. One for fresh RODI and the other for Kalk RODI i push them as a mix based on pH through a smart ATO. The smart solenoid failed 3 times (to Coralvue credit all 3 replaced) finally I cut the round plug from the Coralvue solenoid and bought a WIC 12v and it's been running for 6mos without a leak or any failure.

I don't have an ATO like yours, but I do have an in-line from my RO unit. I'm thinking I will could use the WIC as a back up to my basic cheap float valve. That thing has always made me sweat when I'm not home!

You can, with a 1LINK module, which provides two 24VDC outputs.
Please do not send me PMs with technical questions or requesting assistance - use the forums for Apex help. PM me ONLY if the matter is of a private or personal nature. Thanks.

This has been working great. I just built a second one for my new tank. I also created a 24v LED light and switch for the stand. I will create a second thread with the details no that.

I use several 120v solenoid with my classic, make sure to use the relay outlet with it or it might get stuck open! Shouldn't be a problem with the 2016!

I hooked up two WIC 24vdc to a 1link to use with my RO/DI setup. 1 solenoid valve to dump RO water until the TDS has settled and then the other to direct the RO water to a DI unit. When the solenoid was in the 'on' position for a while, like 5 minutes, they got really hot even though water was running through the valve. Has anyone experienced this?

I have had some for over a year running every day for 30 minutes. It gets warm but I don't think they get hot. Electricity going though the coil to keep the vale open does generate heat. If your water flow is low it may not be enough to keep it cool

I run three different sizes (24V WIC) and anytime they are on continuously for more than an hour they are really HOT. Not stinking hot or burn your fingers hot, just regular hot that it starts to hurt if you hold your fingers on them for more than a few seconds. One of mine has been on continuously for about a year now and still has not melted.

Be careful to buy a proper solenoid. RO water is very corrosive to metal inside the valve, including stainless steel.

If using this system be sure water changes and carbon are part of your maintenance or get a solenoid without exposed metal components.

I was actually trying to find a source for just the connectors. I need multiple and don’t wanna pay $20 a piece for them...

I've done the same with this solenoid from Buckeye Hydro. They carry the Aquatec plugs, so I just added that to the end of the Neptune 24v cable, and plugged it directly into the solenoid. I've also used the 110v version of the solenoid plugged into an outlet on the EB382.

There is also this Molex connector available, looks like the same one aside from the color.
