Brand new Apex, but no apex.local access

    Hi,
    Just bought a new Apex!
Was excited to set it up but hit a roadblock in the first moments...

Apex is solid blue light, and power has a solid orange, as expected.
I CAN connect to the wifi SSID it created... but I can't access anything through a browser.
Try to load apex.local but I can't get anything to show up.
All I get is "404 Not Found" page.

(I CAN ping it... @172.16.0.1, with ~5ms response rate so its technically connected and listening)

After scouring the forums I have also tried the following... but all with same results. (trying with Safari & Chrome)
    apex.local
    apex
    http://apex.local
    http://apex
    172.16.0.1
    http://172.16.0.1
Any advice from my new wise Apex wizard friends?
    Thanks!

That's an odd ip address for your network. They are normally 192.168.x.x

Check out another device like an iPad or phone or comouter for your ip

    Thanks imfsub12,
The 172.16.0.1 is the default ip for the Apex, its hosting its own wifi.
I tried with ipad, computer, iphone yes... no dice.

8 know this might not help but go thought the setup steps again. You might of missed some step. I set mine up in about 10 min. I used a laptop and not a phone. Try that again. You can always hit the reset button on it to start from scratch.

But I'm a newbie as well

eklarasyk. When you're connected to the Apex SSID what is your computer's IP address? Are you able to ping 172.16.0.1?

    Hi Justin,
Yes exactly. I connect and the Apex has the self-assigned IP of 172.16.0.1 which I CAN ping successfully.
    My ip was 172.16.0.5

(my ip changed a few times as I had connected repeatedly, always that pattern however)

    ekarasyk,

You do not have it also plugged into the network correct (I had an issue when I tried to have it directly connected to my laptop via the Ethernet port or to the network) I assume your unit is only on wireless?

If you have already factory defaulted it, then do the following:

1- Power down the unit entirely wait 2-3 minutes
    2- Re-power up the unit
3- Not sure of what type of phone or laptop your using, make sure you clear your cache if using your laptop/PC. I had an issue with the 2016 unit I was trying to configure through the display module even thou I could ping it could not bring up the page, I had to clear my cache on my laptop and do a ipconfig /release and config /renew to get an IP.
4- Once you connect to the Apex via directly via wireless see if you can IP directly to it. 172.16.0.1

Thanks for the thoughtful advice KRoss,
Tried your steps after factory defaulted, and I got the same results, unfortunately.

    [UPDATE]
Tonight I tried the hardwired approach instead of wifi.
Once I plugged in the ethernet it acquired an IP as expected on my local network. I tried accessing via Http and got the same 404 error.

I could ping it, so I also tried accessing via Telnet and that worked!
entered default admin:1234 to login... but I don't know any APEX / Telnet commands... and this seems like I could cause a lot more harm than good by messing around.

So basically in the same place: WiFi no Http access, Ethernet no Http access.

This thread is 2 years old. Make a new thread explaining your issues. The OP is unlikely to respond.

sounds like the same problem I was having, and yet 2 years later, it hasn't been addressed.

I would advise that you skip trying to complete the initial setup via wifi and plug directly into your router. once you complete that, then you can set up wifi.

I'm not a technical guru and was having the same issue with my new 2016 set up not being able to get to local
Did not have this issue with the Classic model set up.
My issue was I did not know the IP address of the 2016 and like an idiot followed the directions in the get started page that specifically stated NOT to connect any modules or probes at this time
Well the display I had from the classic would have told me the IP address but I feared plugging it in since its a ''module''
Tried following the link in the get started like a Jack Nut thinking it would magically take me to the local apex page
All I was seeing was the NOT found error message among other things and suggestions.
Since I do not know how to access my router ( its my wifes area not mine LOL ) she was sleeping dammit !!
I finally just hooked up the dang display module and got the magic numbers ( IP address ) and guess what.... Yeah I got into my local page.

Not saying this is your issue but sharing my Dumb moment may help others out Hopefully.
