    Parental discretion is advised...

    Parental discretion is advised:

Neptune, what can you do you stop this from happening again? Finer grille (which requires more cleaning - we know), or start the blades slowly (or a short pulse) to scare them out?
Or include a protection net (sock, foam, whatever you call it) for us with smaller, nosy fish?

That was painful to watch. Any word on this? I'm planing a big tank build and was thinking of getting a pair of these but maybe not.

For this reason, I never stop my propeller-style pumps. I got in the habit of this with my old tunze streams - turn them down with programming, but never stop. Vortechs do a short pulse before starting up - but I'm not convinced that still wouldn't hurt something - so I never stop the vortech either.

I agree with LobsterOfJustice, this is a potential issue with all pumps depending on the way you have them programmed. I personally do not see this as a design issue. Poor fish though. At least it was quick.

One thing you can do in the meantime until neptune provides a more elegant solution is to either never let the pump stop for more than a few seconds or wrap the pump in 1/4 mesh netting that they sell at BRS and secure it with zip ties.

Great idea. If you could find black, like gutter guard mesh, then place it inside the grill; it would be an elegant fix.
