    Apex Head Unit

My layout will contain a besement sump which will have all the life support there. There will be an EB4 in the stand to control the powerheads and SBReeflights (just to turn off in case of overheat). Does the head unit have to be plugged into the 'brain' or could it be daisychained through the EB4 next to it?

What do you mean by "head unit"? The Apex Display?

No worries. Your Apex Display can be powered from the apex base unit or any EB4/EB8/EB832 connected to base unit. So as long as you've got a long AquaBus cable from your basement to your stand you should be good to go!
