Setting up second temperature probe as a 'failsafe'

I have a second temperature installed along with a PM3.

    Questions:
    1) I have my 2 heaters using the Seasonal Table; if my DayTemp is RT+0.2 - should I set my TempBU [backup] as If TempBU > RT+1.0 Then OFF?

    What about the lower failsafe?

    2) I keep trying to calibrate my second temperature probe to be inline with my primary; it still does not read the same temperature.

    2. The temperature probe, along with most probes, are analog and they are converted to digital by the Apex. Because of this it will almost always be impossible, except by accident, to have them convert a continuously variable signal to the digital temperature steps at exactly the same point. Also, are they in different areas of the tank and sump? Even with the water circulating there will be slight differences in temperature. The probes also are not instantaneous, they take a bit of time to react to temperature changes.

    1. I would use one probe to control the heater. I would then use the second as a safety if the temperature got higher or lower than normal. It would be real nice to have an alarm if the temperatures got further apart than normal but Apex can't do that. The best would be an alarm if the temp got too high or low, test both probes, and alarm.
