Apex 2016 - Loses Communications Daily

I have had my Apex 2016 for a couple of weeks, and almost daily it loses communications via local and fusion. It doesn't appear that it loses connectivity, though - I can ping it, and going to the local IP shows the background image with a communications failure message. So, it feels like its internal webserver is still running, but that some other control/comms service is the issue. Pumps and such continue to run normally.

My only option seems to be to unplug it and have it reboot. Anyone else with similar experiences? Is there a CLI to log in to and check for any problematic processes/threads?

    Thanks!

Have you had any power outages?
if not unplug the unit for 30sec then plug in, that has always helped me.

I have a UPS that regulates power and provides 45 minutes of battery backup for the entire tank and control systems, and a 1200 watt generator if the power from PG&E does go out, also connected to the UPS before it gets to the tank's equipment. The power to the Apex controller comes from the USB cable (or whatever they call that interface) that connects to the EB832.

Rebooting "fixes" it for a day or two, but I can't have it failing every day or two and rebooting it - especially when I'm traveling and my wife or friends are caring for the tank.

Out of curiosity, I don't suppose you have both the physical and wireless networks enabled? This has caused issues for a number of other folks including myself that appeared as power outages with comms loss.

Would also open a support request with Neptune just to be on the safe side.

How long does Tech support usually take?? I was hoping they would be able to look at the unit to see whats wrong before I default and reprogram it....

I solved, no problems in last two weeks!

    1. Use wired connection.
    2. Assign a static ip address to the apex
    3. Disable the apex wifi
    4. Update energy bar to latest firmware
    5. Shutdown apex 5 minutes and then turn on.

    Good luck

Yea I was hoping they would be able to login and find problem to help them and the next update. Also hate that I have to hard wire and not use the WIFI but it is what it is... Do you know if there is a way to get into fusion online to see the last info before my apex stooped communicating? I would like to see all the programming so i can copy and not forget anything.

At present, there is no backup capability for the Apex 2016. That said, if fusion still has the information, once logged in, you can hit the drop down arrow next to your apex name in the upper left hand corner. From the drop down select "Summary" that will provide most if not all of the information.

Unfortunately, I don't think there is a way around this.

Have you opened a support request with Neptune to see if they can help?

Many people recommend a static IP - is this what Neptune support recommends? Neptune also recommends keeping wifi and wired together (as backup). So it gets confusing - the main issue (here anyway) was that the EB firmware was corrupted - once updated haven't had any problems. (Using wired connection and Wifi, Not a static IP)

i have the same problem but the reason why I went with the system is because of the wifi. I can't hardwire where my tank is. Sort of defeated my purpose

After several months of reasonable uptime on WIFI, my Apex started failing on communications to the point of just not working period. I switched to a gaming adapter and that worked pretty well as long as WIFI was disabled. Like many, a hardwired Ethernet just wasn't possible. Recently I tried a Netgear Powerline 1200 somewhat reluctantly as my previous experience with Ethernet over house wiring was not good. However, in my 4 year old house with modern wiring the PowerLine 1200 has been working very well for over a week with zero disconnects. On the Powerline 1200, there is a signal strength test called "Pick A Plug LED". This is normally green on both ends which is advertised to be over 80 Mbps. I get, at times, a momentary red light which indicates less than 50 Mbps. The lower rate doesn't seem to impact the Fusion connection. I'm pretty happy with the stability so far.
