How to activate Heartbeat in APEX Fusion

So the apex team released a new update for fusion (you don't need to do anything except refresh the apex fusion page) one of the features that i have been waiting for is heartbeat
Heartbeat basically tells the user if there was a power outage or if there was a network failure (heartbeat cannot differentiate between the two but notifies you to take a look because something is wrong) it monitors the connection between apex and apexfusion

    How to activate
    On a desktop computer
    1)Go to apexfusion.com
    2)log in
    3)Select your apex
4)Select apex top right (has a little house icon)
5)On the bottom of that drop down menu under setup it will say heartbeat
    6)Click on heartbeat
7)On the right side of the page it will say heartbeat Click on disabled
    8)Select enable
9)You should see a orange cloud with a arrow on the top right click it and your all set

If using the mobile version of fusion
    1)Go to apexfusion.com
    2)log in
    3)Select your apex
4)Select the menu icon on the top right (three lines)
5)Select apex top left (has a little house icon)
6)Scroll to the bottom under setup it will say heartbeat
    7)Click on heartbeat
    8)Click on disabled
    9)Select enable
If the menu on the top is still showing you apex (little house icon) and your name the just select the menu button again to hide it
10)You should see a orange cloud with a arrow on the top right click it and your all set

What do you guys think of this update

How long must the controller be disconnected before an alert is sent?

It basically sends a communication between fusion and your apex and when the connection is cut it alerts you

Just above 'Heartbeat' there is an icon 'Display'.
It is not shown in my fusion (laptop, iphone ipad, ...).
    Any idea what it is?

Many of the items shown on that menu are only present for Apex (2016). If you have an Apex Classic, there will be fewer menu items.

    Thanks Russ!.
It is weird. I have the Apex 2016. For instance, 'heartbeat' works well for me.
I will try to find out if there is something wrong with my device.

well mine keeps diconnecting. The only way to restore is to restart network on front panel. It's not my WAP , it is stable. Getting tired of resetting my apex .

Anyone know how to disable the heartbeat on a disconnected apex? I unplugged mine on purpose this morning and I can't access any of the menu items on the apex due to the "disconnected" popup...

I can plug it in when i get back home but i'm already tired of all the texts and emails :-)

Maybe shutting of the email in fusion would help

you can't change *any* of the config if it's disconnected. The popup blocks all access to the controller.

You could block the number with your phone and then unblock it when you get it figured out.

The interval between each subsequent Heartbeat alerts will increase. I'd just ignore the alerts until you get back home.

If you disable Heartbeat, you won't be able to re-enable for 24 hours after you reconnect the Apex... another point to consider.

I enabled this a few weeks ago. Since enabling I have had a major service provider outage for about 30 hrs, and I just now updated firmware which I have to pull out the extra long cat 5 cables for. This obviously disconnects my apex (it's an older one from 2013) from it's access point and plugs it into the cable directly to the router causing an connectivity disruption. I have never received a heartbeat notification. How long do you have to be without connection to get one? I purposely left mine unplugged from wifi and fusion still looks like it works even though it actually does not. It must not talk in real time... help me understand. For example I have had my apex disconnected from the network for at least 10min now and I go to fusion and it looks like everything is ok, clock is ticking away and everything looks good. If I try to go directly to the apex web server it can not be reached. There is definitely some fusion magic going on there to distract you, can you explain that and also when I should get a heartbeat notice. Thanks!

The first Heartbeat alert will be sent 35-40 minutes after loss of communications. A second one will be sent an hour later, then a third notification will be sent 2 hours after the second one, and so on at increasing intervals.

Coincidentally I got my first heartbeat message about the same time you replied to this. Cool, It works! I left the network cable unplugged for a while to test it. I wonder why when I had an internet provider outage it never reported anything? I just got the reconnection message while typing this. Working... Happy again and just in time for vacation season. Thanks, RussM for replying so quickly.
