Heartbeat was added to Fusion last month, along with a slew of other enhancements. This has nothing to do with the Apex Operating system aka firmware. These new Fusion features & enhancements are not part of firmware; firmware and Fusion are totally different things. Heartbeat and such were already there for you in Fusion before the AOS update.

Your Apex (2016) will only check for a new AOS version periodically and after a reboot.

The update has many APEX LOCAL enhancements and minor fixes. Lots of little things mostly. The major changes are:

    - Fluid Monitoring Module (FMM) support
    - Updated firmware for the 1LINK module (1LINK firmware version 004) which adds user-definable Fallback ON or OFF support for the DC24/ACC ports

And two more big additions (I know some of you have been waiting for these!)

    - Season Table editing
    - Configuration Backup Load/Save

How do I do a configuration backup? I have the new firmware installed, but I must be blind because I don't see it.

Look under the misc icon. In the upper top left there are two new icons sun and a hard drive.

If you don't see them clear your browsers cache

in apex.local click on the configuration (gears), them misc (wrench). When that menu loads look for the button at the top that looks like a disk drive.
