Can I somehow rig a water level alert with this ato?

I have an extra auto top off- the kind where it has a float with wires going to a box where it has one male and and female power cord. I have never used it but I believe when the float is triggered it powers the female power cord, where presumably you would have a pump connected. Can this device be used to set up a low water alert in my sump that I could program, for example, the return pump to shut off to avoid damag (maybe I have shut off the valve to my gravity ato and forgot to turn it back on).

if so, how would it connect/interact with the apex?

Considering I have this device already, is there an easier way to accomplish the goal?

Do you have a BoB to connect a float to? If not you first need a BoB. This floathttp://www.bulkreefsupply.com/float-...cal-mount.html can be used and you can probably use it with the holder you have in the photo. Another option is to cut the wire that runs from the float to the box and attach that wire to the BoB.
