    Ants

Someone recently gave us a plant which we placed on the shelf next to the aquarium. It turned out the plant had ants so we tossed the plant. However there are still ants around our aquarium. What can we use to kill the ants that will not cause problems for our tank?

If they have no food source, they will die off pretty quick.

I have my cat food next to the aquarium and sometimes I will get black ants in the house that are drawn to her food. I just sweep up the ants and throw them back outside, then wipe everything down with white vinegar. It will usually be another year before I see them again.

Then there is also Borax, totally reef safe! Mix Borax with sugar and a little water and place it in a small container. The syrup will draw in the ants and the Borax will kill them. No chemicals or aerosols to speak of.

Staw away from store bought ant killers which contain Pyrethrins and are harmful to your tank.
