MacBook internet sharing: is it possible to use MacBook as "repeater"?

My MacBook is connected wirelessly to my WiFi. I have my Apex connected to my MacBook via Ethernet.

My hopes are to use the internet sharing feature of MacBook to get Apex to connect to Apex Fusion. Alas this doesn't seem to work.

    Is there another way?

    Running Apex Gold/Classic.

Seems wasteful from a power perspective and ruins the portability of your MacBook. A Wi-Fi extender with an Ethernet port (what I use personally) or a Wi-Fi gaming adapter are better long term solutions if you can't run Ethernet directly to your router.

True and I'm aware of this. This setup will be temporary and don't want to buy an extender for only 2 months.

Are You able to answer the original question though?

Yes, but I don't remember the steps off the top of my head. If you search "turn PC into router" on Google is has some guides.

The basic jist is you set the Ethernet port as an ad hoc network type and then it tunnels through the Ethernet, over WiFi to your router. I don't remember if you use the computers ip or the routers ip as the gateway and everything would have to be static ip or it wouldn't work.

It's complicated enough and unreliable enough, A Wi-Fi extender is honestly your best bet. Even if it's only temporary, You could always use it to boost Wi-Fi in your bedroom or basement down the road.

You can also do this on a PC. Steps are different depending on OS version.

You will need to decide if you want to assign static IP address or run a DHCP setup. Cleanest way is to manually set the IP for the Apex and the PC/MacBook's Ethernet port.

Ensure that the IP address scheme is different.
So if your router/wifi IP is 192.168.1.x, your IP scheme for the computer's Ethernet and Apex should be 192.168.2.x. And for the Ethernet's config, you will need to set routes and DNS settings.

I have no ideas what the process is for a mac, but these generic things might be causing your issues.

    1. Make sure Ethernet is set up as the sharing and WiFi is set as the receiving.

    2. Make sure the sharing feature is actually working. If you connect another computer with WiFi off to the Ethernet port can you connect to the internet?

    3. Determine the ip address being used on the Ethernet port. Try using DHCP on with the apex if it doesn't find it, You can use ipconfig on another computer to determine the gateway.

    4. After the above has been checked turn DHCP off on the apex. And manually input an ip address that the first 3 sets are the same as the gateway found above, but the last set is different. Use subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and gateway what you found above.

You might be an engineer if...You have no life and can prove it mathematically.

I don't have an Apple Airport Express... hence the initial question.

I thought you were looking for solutions that would work to get your APEX connected to your WiFi.

I guess I wasn't very clear with my situation. I need a temporary solution for my apex while I get my tank setup at home before I move it to my office at work. I didn't want to have to buy a long cable... but I ended up doing that anyways since it was the cheapest solution. I guess I wasn't very clear with my situation.
