    Loud 1" Flow Sensor

    Hi,

I've installed a 1" sensor on my return, with >5" of straight run on either side of the sensor, in a vertical orientation. However, the flow sensor is intermittently loud - it almost sounds like a clicking sound or possibly like a creaking sound. The sensor flow direction is correct per the arrow on the back side.

Any ideas? Is this a bad sensor? The reading seems correct.

    Thanks,
    Matt

Is your flow within the published range of the flow sensor? Possible you are overloading it and the sound it it spinning way too fast. Another possibility is you have sediment built up inside the sensor.

You might be an engineer if...You have no life and can prove it mathematically.

Well, it's a brand new tank, so no sediment. And the sensor is pushing about 770 gph, which I'd assume is within the range. It has quieted down somewhat, so it may just be a wear in issue.

That's within the range for sure. 1" goes up to 1500 gph. If the noise has subsided now then I would guess that either there was a piece of sand lodged in the that came loose eventually, there was a manufacturing flaw in the mold that gave the rudder something to slap against or caused too much friction, or it was damaged in shipping.

Mine quieted down over time and I don't hear it anymore.
