Calibrate Conductivity Probe (Freshwater)

I know that many will say this is not useful but while I was on a tour at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago they said that they measure the conductivity of their freshwater tanks to show trends in waste in the water. They said that any dissolved solids will make this number go up not just salt. They did say that salt water is far more conductive than fresh though.

In either case, you need to calibrate it differently for fresh water. Does anyone know of the proper directions to doing so?? I keep a planted aquarium where I dose ferts and other things. Might be useful to be able to stop the ferts if the conductivity goes too high. I took away from their lecture that there is a relationship between high Nitrates and conductity in freshwater.

See the PM2 manual; there’s a table in there which shows the conductivity range setting to use for a freshwater system and the proper calibration solution to use.

I had already saw this before but I can not find this solution anywhere so I was hoping someone had some other suggestions.
