Ok so I have a 3/4 hp chiller that has a 230w style plug. How can I use it with my apex 2016?
i obviously cant just plug it in to the apex and i am sure the apex isnt meant to be switching a big load either

I assume you mean a 230 Volt plug, not watt.
im not an electrician but you could look at the apex controlling a relay and that relay turning on and off the chiller.
I haven't seen anything premade in a quick Google search. What you would need is a 240V 10A (contact rated make and break) relay with at least 2 form A or form C contacts with a 24V (if you want to control with ACC port) or 120V (if you want to control with EB outlet) coil. The NO contacts wired in series to both L1 and L2 between a 240V plug and a 240V receptacle. N and GND wired passthrough between plug and receptacle.
If 100% of that didn't make sense to you, hire someone who knows what they are doing. 240V wiring can get dangerous if you don't know what you are doing.
You might be an engineer if...You have no life and can prove it mathematically.
I am going to have my electrician out anyways as I need to run the circuit in the wall any ways for it. Would the old legacy socket expander module be useful here?
No, because it's the wrong plug style and is rated 120V.
