Neptune SV-1 Solenoids are normally in the closed position. Can I send power to open the Solenoid and keep it open for hours at a time? Is this improper use of the solenoid and will this shorten the life of the Solenoid?

Yes you can do so without issue

Thank you for your input. How do you use these solenoids in your system?
I use it as a fail safe on my ATO. Its not designed for saltwater per a ticket I opened for Neptune support asking that question. They recommend only use for air or freshwater.
I have a similar set-up, my solenoid is only OFF about 4 hours per day. I do notice that it gets very warm. Is there any thought to making a normally open solenoid? Is there a hack so that default state could be made open?
