    PPT to SG display?

Sorry if this is posted already, but I'm not able to locate it nor in the manual.

How to I get Apex dashboard to display Sg instead of PPT?

I'm more accustomed to working in Sg

    Thanks
    John

You are not going to find it in the manual. It is not possible to change the Apex to read SG. The probe is reading in ppt (salinity)

Here is a helpful calculator you can use

Recovering this topic to request to Apex as a wishlist. Measurement in SG is mostly common in other countries.

I was figuring out if wasn't possible to create a program to convert and display in Dashboard SG value.

Anyway, please consider in the future.

    Thanks

Probably not gonna happen because the conversion changes quite dramatically depending on where you keep your Mg and Alk levels at because Mg and carbonates are significantly heavier than chlorine. Conductivity measurements in mS/cm and ppt can be directly converted between each other and the effect of Mg, Ca, and Alk is almost neglegable because each ion counts as 1 regardless of weight. This allows to to better measure what really matters in the tank: how much salt is there. Ppt also makes the math simpler if/when you need to use it and is the unit of measurement for accurate secondary checks like refractometers. Rather than use a conversion to what you are used to (like the US does stupidly with imperial units) it's much better to get used to the better measurement system.

You might be an engineer if...You have no life and can prove it mathematically.

Thanks for the technical explanation Zombie, I’ll try to set my mind to PPT, but this reminds me an extension of a certain presentation software. It will be more difficult

One way to help make the transition easier from SG to ppt, is that most refractometers have an SG scale on the left, and the corresponding ppt scale on the right. When you're checking the SG of your tank or pre-mix SW, get in the habit at looking at the right ppt scale, and before you know it, you will know at a glance what the correct ppt range is.

Electronic digital refractometers also let you easily compare units for each measurement. Oddly enough, even though I'm quite comfortable with my Apex reading in ppt, I still leave my refractometer set to SG.
