Will the FMK provided unions leak without sealant, or plumbers tape?

Will the FMK provided unions leak without sealant, or plumbers tape?
Specifically, im asking about the threads between the two gray pieces that screw together.

Also, would sealant or plumbers tape be required between the unions and the actual sensor?

Between the two halves of the union, you do not need tape/sealant. There is a o-ring inside the union that makes the seal. Between the threaded end of the union and the flow sensor, you do need sealant. Neptune recommends the rector seal 5 I believe. I tried that when I plumbed mine in and still had leaks. I used silicone (which is a no-no, but I have bad luck with threads and avoid them everywhere I can).

Russ posted a thread on this which was useful and I didn't follow it on the 1/2 inch sensor and it leaked. I followed his recommendation as posted and guess what? Solid with no leaks.
