    PMUP horror!

Hi all, so was about to perform my bi-weekly water change.

Doing this the normal way I remove 50 litres from my sump, this was made a whole lot easier by using a pmup plugged in the the b port on my 1 link.

Note this is the only time this pmup is used. Unplugged rinse in tap water.

However went to switch on this morning and nothing.
Whilst leaving in the on position while I check the cables on the 1 link and messed about in fusion. So no more than 5 minutes.

Next to my horror the pmup was so hot it had bulged!!!!
Switched off opened up to find this! 2 of the blades on the impeller literally fell off from the heat.

    Completely rusted!!!!!

Anyone else ever seen this. And considering I have one of the pmup also on my ATK

    Not impressed

I didn't have that, but all the blades broke off the impeller of my first one. The replacement has been running fine. If you are in the warranty period contact support and they will replace it.

Mine died after a few days, literally 3 days using as an ATO, RO/DI water only.

Hot as well, If I spin the propeller it will spin for a minute maybe then stop and get hot again.

My ATO PMUP has been fine, but I had similar problems with the impeller for a SICCE pump in my Sicce. The plastic casing splits and as soon as water gets inside the magnet rusts and expands, splitting the casing more. It’s only a matter of time at that point. It’s definitely a manufacturing defect with the impeller casing. I can’t say if it’s been happening more often with the PMUPs or not.

As for the wire, I have seen several reports of the wire coming loose, so you’re not the only one.

When it works, the PMUP is a nice little pump; hopefully Neptune gets the manufacturing issues straightened out.
