    Dual Finnex heaters

I have 2 300 watts finnex heaters for my 100 gallon tank. I wanted to use Apex to control heaters and have the thermostat as a backup. My question is what should I put my finnex controller temp too? Also if my temp is between 78.1 and 78.4 I don't want the heater to be turning on and off every 5 seconds. I am looking to keep a mixed tank mostly sps and lps.

    Heater1
    Fallback ON
If Temp < 78.1 Then ON
If Temp > 78.4 Then OFF
If Time 20:00 to 07:59 Then OFF
If Temp < 77.9 Then ON

    Heater2
    Fallback OFF
If Temp < 78.1 Then ON
If Temp > 78.4 Then OFF
If Time 08:00 to 19:59 Then OFF
If Temp < 77.9 Then ON
If Temp < 75.0 Then OFF

You would set the internal thermostat to something like 79, so if the apex fails it doesn't go crazy in your tank.

if your system is big enough to need a 300 watt heater, I doubt the temp will raise or fall 0.6 degrees in 5 seconds, probably could fall in 30 minutes and raise in an hour or so

This one seems similar to my post last night. If using an external controller with it's own temp probe isn't it best to have the Apex outlet stay on unless/until some max temp threshold is reached? In other words, let the Finnex controller do all the normal temp monitoring & adjusting and just have Apex turn it off if Apex senses a temp too high?

Don not sure I would think using apex is more precise than the controller. I would probably expect the therm controller to fail before apex.

It's more precise and less likely to fail. The precise part is due to a more customizable hysteresis. By default most heaters have a 1.0 to 2.2 degree hysteresis range. The apex can get that down al low as 0.3. The less likely to fail is better contacts.

You might be an engineer if...You have no life and can prove it mathematically.
