ok so for years I have had apex.. I just upgraded to the new 2016. my old system I had the ip address set for a static ip address.
1. is that more stable.
2. I assume we can do that for the new 2016... Pros and Cons on that please thank you

I would still set a fixed IP. While not required, there have been several reports of that helping to stop disconnects.
The easiest way to accomplish that is to set a reservation on your WiFi router. That way it always assigns the same IP to the Apex. That also eliminates the possibility of the router assigning the IP to another device and causing IP conflicts. If you just set the IP at the Apex and it is still in the router's DHCP scope, it could assign it to something else too.
I can't think of any cons for setting a fixed IP.
Static is always better and more stable as long as your choice of ip address is not a number that could be assigned after a power outage to another DHCP device and is not one of the routers reserved DHCP addresses (This only applies to certain routers namely huawei).
You might be an engineer if...You have no life and can prove it mathematically.
ok so how do we set the static ip address in the apex 2016. or do i simply go to my router and reserve the one currently being used by Apex?
You can just reserve the current IP in your router. And/or: Go to the Apex Network setup page, click on Configuration tab, pull down Type to Network, pull down DHCP to Disabled, set your desired static IP address to something outside of or at the never-used higher end of your DHCP range, and Update the Apex. Device may reboot at this point.
oh.. ok ..so disabled tab... opens up a new bunch of options.
right now my DHCP assigned ends in 31 which is in the spread of what my router assigns in the range for DHCP.. so do i wan to assign one that is out side of the range the router assigns to make sure the router does not one day assign 31.
thanks
ok... i just reread the post.. got it thanks ...
