Is the MTBF info available for the OS-1?
Is the MTBF info available for the OS-1?
I haven't seen anything posted.
You might be an engineer if...You have no life and can prove it mathematically.
Based on mine and many other people's experiences, not very long. I've had 2 of 5 go bad within 8 months of installation. At least one of mine failed by leaking at the point where the cord enters the housing. I suspect that perhaps these were not meant to be fully submerged at all, but rather, installed through a bulkhead, which is suggested by the design, as well as by usage diagrams accompanying identical sensors sold on ebay. I really love how easy optical sensors are to use; it's super simple to place them almost anywhere. In fact, despite the problems, I just added a 6th. But they need to be reliable as well.
Being that the OS-1 is sold with a magnetic mount and the wire is fully submerged if mounted vertically we could believe that the housing would be waterproof. Is there a problem with quality control on sensors that we depend upon to avoid disasters?
Generally (not speaking from experience with the OS1), I have found optical sensors to be much more reliable than float sensors. I've run the same ones from a cheap chinese manufactured ATO for 3 years without sensor failure.
