    Suspecting Faulty Temp Probe/connection

    Hi All,

I am hoping to get a little input from more experienced eyes/hands. I am setting up my apex classic after it has been in storage for quite some time. Everything so far is running pretty well. I upgraded to the most recent firmware and updated my modules (2 eb8’s, and the display module).

My issue is with the temperature probe. I think it was working for a bit but recently jumped “WAY OUT OF RANGE” - 120 degrees +. I think this is likely due to a short but I can’t be sure.

When I went to calibrate it, the interface would only allow me to move the range a maximum of 30 degrees before recycling back to the upper range - eg 102-132 - is that normal? Also, they were in whole numbers - no 102.6 for example.

I can certainly buy a new probe but I am not sure if that will fix my problem if I can’t calibrate it effectively or if the “guts” of the apex are amiss.

Thanks very much for your help.

A reading that high is a short. No compensation will fix that. You need to clean the connector and if that doesnt fix It, you need a new probe.

You might be an engineer if...You have no life and can prove it mathematically.

Thanks Zombie. I guess I will try a new probe. Out of curiosity, what should the apex do when the temp probe is removed?

If a probe is disconnected, the reading will be about 20-22F
Please do not send me PMs with technical questions or requesting assistance - use the forums for Apex help. PM me ONLY if the matter is of a private or personal nature. Thanks.

Ok so what does it mean if the apex continues to display 120+ degrees when disconnected? Is that a short within the “brain”?

Thanks so much for your help guys!

Most likely yeah. It could be in the port where you can access it, so give that an inspection and clean out any debris you can see.

Yeah i dismounted it to take a look. Both the plug and the port look very clean. No debris or salt creep that I could see.

Then make a support ticket. Chances are you will have to send it in.
