Display module crashes when trying to adjust brightness or contrast

I've been setting up a new tank with a new 2016 Apex over the last week, with a very similar configuration to my first Apex-controlled tank. I got the ADM display module right away, hooked it up, adjusted the day and night time hours, brightness, and contrast setting. Everything was fine.

Yesterday, I went to increase the contrast a bit, and found that, now, whenever you try to access the contrast adjustment or either brightness adjustment setting, a blank display appears, none of the buttons function, and after about 10 seconds, the Apex reboots. Tried it a couple of times and the problem persists. I have also tried:

Unplugging the module and plugging it back in.
Unplugging the module, rebooting the Apex, and plugging it back in.
Updating the ADM firmware, several times (I had already updated it to version 11 (OK) when I first installed it.)

I have not tried deleting the module and re-initiating it. I remember some comments on here that this could be a dangerous thing to do.

All of the other display functions seem to be working fine. I can access other pages without problem.

So, has anyone seen this before? Any thoughts on how to fix it?

Is it likely firmware or hardware? (The fact that it is just effecting the brightness and contrast controls, which are probably handled entirely by the module itself, makes me suspicious of a hardware problem.)

Should I try deleting the module? Is this still a dangerous thing to do on a 2016 Apex with current firmware? As I said, this is a new system without livestock yet, so I'm willing to try some riskier fixes, but I don't want to render the whole system inoperable if I can help it.

Confirmed. I'll submit a bug report. For now, don't use those 3 options.
Please do not send me PMs with technical questions or requesting assistance - use the forums for Apex help. PM me ONLY if the matter is of a private or personal nature. Thanks.

“Confirmed” meant that I replicated with one of my systems. Classics are not affected by this - only Apex (2016).

Yes; I was surprised at first that you could replicate it at all, implying that it's a general software bug and not limited to just my system. Good to know.

Russ, would you know if the new update addresses this? I have successfully applied the new update + FMM modules update to the Apex in question. I can try the brightness/contrast controls myself of course, but would rather not initiate another experimental crash and reboot if possible.

The fix didn’t make it into 5.03_2C18.

Just got my display module in the mail a few days ago and found that I am having the crashing issue with brightness adjustment iexplained in this thread. I have updated to the latest AOS. Has anybody out there found any solutions ?

I'm just waiting until I hear that it's fixed to try it again. If I don't see it mentioned in the next AOS update, I might inquire about it at that point, as it's been awhile.

The problem is not with the display itself. It depends on which Apex model the display is plugged into. Only the two newer Apex models are affected.

Anyone find a fix for this issue? Just got an apex with display for Christmas and it’s having this exact issue right from the start.

Yesterday I contacted Neptune about it and their response was basically they know of the issue but there isn't a fix yet. Wish I would have know that before I spent $100 on the display module
