cond. probe readings keeps dropping- false reading.

    hello all,
so I recently set up my first apex. The salinity reading keep dropping. My first thought was that an air bubble was trapped in the probe so i shook it an the reading went up. over the past 24 hours i have been occasionally shaking the probe and the reading goes back up. I'm not around this week to check if the readings keep dropping due to an air bubble. is this a common issue?

That behavior is not common and I'm not exactly sure what would cause that other than bubbles. Is it in an area of your sump nearby a skimmer perhaps?

There is a 3 baffle bubble trap between the probes and the skimmer, same with the drains. i had someone check on the probes again and there are no bubbles that they could see...

If you have a magnetic probe rack, you could try angling it so that if there were bubbles they could more easily escape. If that helps, bubbles is the problem. If not at least you know it's not bubbles.

I’m sorry to hijack, I’m also new and set my first apex two days ago. My salinity is going up and won’t stop. Is it same kind of issue ?

I would get a probe rack ASAP whether it be the neptune one or a cheaper one like the eshopps. Styrofoam is not reef safe.
