    Random ORP spikes

My ORP usually wavers in the low to mid 300's. The last couple weeks I have had a few instances of it raising to over 450. Possible causes? It has settled back down but I am still curious.

Orp spiking up is usually an indicator of a nitrate or nitrite spike. It can also be cause if some sort of metal such as iron got into the tank.

Orp spiking down is an indicator of decaying organic material, this is often followed by a spike up once the decaying material is skimmed up or eaten once converted into nitrates and nitrites.
