    Help Updating 2012 Jr

I have restarted my tank back up and since I last used it I've switched to an android phone and from what I can see I need to update my firmware to use "Fusion"

    This is my current firmware

    4.12J_5A12

It's very outdated can I just update to the new version?

Yes you can. But because there have been so many changes in the last 6 years, I would Initialize the system after updating the firmware and web pages.

Do you have a display module?

    Thanks for the swift reply

No I don't have a display module is that going to be an issue?

I have the Jr, an 8-base and a VDM

Not sure on what you mean by initialize?

Initialize is the term used for a factory reset. If you do this (which I concur with Russ that it's a good idea), make sure you save your programming in a word doc for quick reference if there is anything you want to save from it. On a restarted tank and that long out of date on firmware it's better to start fresh.

Technically yes, but it's very difficult. Best bet is to see if a local reef club member will let you borrow theirs for the day. Most people are happy to help there as long as you leave them a deposit.

When the updates done can you no longer access the unit via the webpage interface?

You can, it's just harder to do after initializing without a display since initializing also resets all the network settings, so it can be done but it takes some workarounds (but not so after network settings are done). You also need to update the bootloader after a big update like that which can only be done with a display. Once you have the bootloader updated and the network settings back where you want them, the display is no longer necessary.

Neptune replied to my enquires to updating without a display with a link to the apex browse utility.

Is this what's needed to update without a display?

    Thanks again

You don't need a display to update. You need a display to update the bootloader (you will not be happy if you skip this step as it can send your apex into a reboot loop and stop working altogether) and make network setup a million times easier after you factory reset.

@ Englishdave, can you DM on how you completed the update on your Jr. I am having the same issues on my Apex.
