    Temp malfunction?

So I woke up this morning to all sorts of missed alarms for high temperature (as high as 87.5) I have both heaters set to turn off at 78.5. My house stays around 70. How is this possible? Everything in the tank is fine so I believe it’s an error, but even now the apex says it’s 79.9 when really it’s down around to 74!

How does this happen? I recalibrated the temp probe, but this is concerning to say the least

    The probe could be failing.

You might be an engineer if...You have no life and can prove it mathematically.

Would that be typical for a probe less than a year old?

And I guess if that’s the case what do I do until I get a replacement here?

No. But it's possible. Temp probes usually last about 5 years.

If it's under warranty contact support. You would have to send it in for diagnostics likely and considering a new one is only $20 it's almost as cheap to replace it vs ship it.

I Have a ticket in with Neptune’s. We’ll see what they say.
I’m not concerned about replacing a $30 probe (even though the fact it only lasted 11 months sucks) I’m more concerned that it suddenly happened without any signs of failure in the middle of the night. Everything in the tank is fine, but the temp got pretty low.
What do people do as a failsafe? Run two temp probes?

Have you rebooted your Apex? Could be an odd transient software glitch.

I run two as a fail safe. I'm surprised to see one fail in just 11 months, I've have one going strong for 6 years now. I also have in the code where heater/fans don't run if temp is over a certain threshold. I.e. if temp is below 70 don't run the heater, it has obviously failed or disconnected, same if it goes Above 85.

At least in my setup these thresholds would never be crossed.

I like the idea of having the program turn off heaters when temp is obviously off.

How do you run two temp probes though? How do you program the heaters to look at both probes?

I have two probes that I use for this. I have one in the sump and one in the tank. I only use the sump temp probe to turn it on if it's below 78.5.

Here's how I have mine set.

    Set OFF
    Fallback OFF
    If S_Temp < 78.5 Then ON
    If S_Temp > 78.5 Then OFF
    If T_Temp > 78.5 Then OFF
    If T_Temp < 70.0 Then OFF
    If S_Temp < 70.0 Then OFF
If Output 2_8_Vectra = OFF Then OFF
If Output V_Power_Out = ON Then OFF
If Output V_Maintenanc = ON Then OFF
If Output V_ALL_STOP = ON Then OFF
