firmware update - Apex not functioning

I just decided to do a firmware update to my Apex classic since I purchased the add on leak detection unit. Well now the whole thing has shut down on me. I lost the screen on the display and all the status lights are blinking orange on the main box, breakout boxes and EB8's. Some of my equipment shut off and other equipment that I normally only run occasionally came on. Tank is still safely operating but this is frustrating.

This is the final message I received:
Sent block: 120 of 120 successful.
    Starting Apex

Operation failed with the following error information:

Waiting for input from Apex, timed out

Any ideas where I need to go from here to get everything back online?

Unplug everything except one energy bar and the display and reboot. If it still wont turn green, then try a firmware force by unplugging the head unit, starting the update, let it say failed to connect a couple times, then plug it back in. Once you get it green, update the bootloader from the display (system -> bootloader update). Then go to the modules page and update the module firmware for what's currently plugged in. Once that is complete, plug in one module at a time and update its firmware too. If you still see weird behavior (like random reboots) or this process in unsuccessful, contact support.

Unplug the base unit from the energy bar and then plug it back in after like 10 seconds.

Took a long time with this process and gets to the end and says:

Sent block: 120 of 120 successful.
    Starting Apex

Operation failed with the following error information:

Waiting for input from Apex, timed out.

Weird that it loads every block and then times out at the very end. It also took a ton of failed attempts to get it all uploaded. The screen was like this for about an hour.

Contact support. That kind of behavior likely indicates a failed component or severely corrupted files.

Do you think it would be a good idea to attempt to run 4.4 firmware back on it? I've read in some other forums that the 4.53 is giving a lot of people hell on the older classic systems.

You will likely need a repair. Mine started doing stuff like that a while back and it was a failed component that needed to be replaced.

I don't know the intricate details, but basically the jist with 4.53 is that something about that firmware made existing hardware problems or corruption more likely to manifest as observable issues (like random reboots). Support can do a check on your system to see if its removable remotely or if it needs to be sent in for repair.
