Do not disable wifi in the adapter. Disable wifi on the computer you attached to the adapter.

So I can’t get my hands on the NetGear adapter for a few days. Will this work?

Now I'm confused. You were having problems getting your Netgear wifi adapter and your your Apex communicating. Now you're talking about getting a wifi range extender. What exactly is the current status and issue?

    You need to try this:
    1. Plug a computer into the wireless adapter.
    2. Go into the network settings of the computer you connected to the adapter in step 1 and disable its wifi.
    3. Open a browser and try surfing the web.
If you can access the web the adapter is working properly. If not something is wrong with the adapter.

i tried all of the above you listed. #3 I couldn’t surf the web with my wifi disabled. So I assumed the adapter is no good? So that’s when I said I couldn’t get my hands in a NetGear WiFi adaptor for a few days and asked if this other adaptor would work. Sorry if I made that confusing!!

There also may be a setting in your hotspot as well that needs adjusting. I know the hotspot on my old s7 by default required an extra security measure beyond the password.

I'll look into that as well, I'm gonna try this new adapter tonight when I get home, if it doesn't work then maybe it is the Verizon hotspot that's not allowing access form the Apex. I'll keep you posted. And again THANK YOU guys for you patience's!!

The linksys device is a range extender not an access point. You will still need the netgear (or simular) access point to attach your hard wired device to your network.

Range extenders can act as adaptors. I use one for my biocube.

Not always. Some do not have to be capability to act as a wireless client. The RE6300 is one. It cannot act as a Ethernet to Wi-Fi bridge.

No, it will not. It is not suitable for use with an Apex Classic.

    You sure about that?

"Fast Wired Connection with Gigabit Ethernet Port

You can connect your Smart TV, Blu-ray Disc player, or any other device with an Ethernet port through the extender's Gigabit Ethernet port to enjoy data transfer speeds 10x faster than a Fast Ethernet port."

    connection

The User Guide I read says it has two modes; a client mode is not one of them. But I did later find that same feature you copied here listed, so it should work. But the User Guide did not mention that capability so it is unclear how that works. One of the modes is that it acts as an AP; the Ethernet port must connect to the network, not an end device, so it must be the other mode which must be selected. Clear as mud to someone that can’t read between the lines...

Well son of a you know what! it worked... RussM it did give an option for an AP; I set it up as a WIFI extender thinking "This ain't gonna work!" Then I plugged in the Ethernet from the Apex and Wala it worked! I cant say thank you enough to bigjim, zombie and RussM for the help!! I am wondering how I'm going to do a firmware update tho... I know I have to be hard-wired but not sure how with a hotspot and this extender? Looks like I might have more questions soon!

    thanks again!!

I have a 100' ethernet cable I run through the house from my router to my apex when I need to do a firmware update. I put it away and go back to the wifi access point when I'm done.

In your scenario, you would need to connect directly to your PC to update the firmware.
