I use to be able to find the mac address for the classic but I cannot find it anywhere for the 2016. The router here uses mac addresses as part of its security.

You could connect directly to it using the hotspot mode or an ethernet cable to a laptop and then figure out the mac address through command prompt.

Put the Apex in Wi-Fi setup mode as zombie suggested. From your computer, look for and connect to the wireless network named Apex_Setup##### (###### will be the Apex's serial number. After your computer is connected, open a Command Prompt (if using Windows) or the Terminal app (if using a Mac). type in the command arp -a then press Enter/Return.
In the output of that command, look for the 172.16.0.1 address - that is the Apex. You'll also see the MAC address. All Apex and Apex EL MAC addresses begin with CC-D3-1E as seen in the Physical Address column in this image:
