    Orp and fish loss?

I've seen multiple mentions that unless you are running ozone, that orp is not very useful. However most then go on to suggest that you would see an orp change if "something big dies". Does anyone have experience with this? If so, what does this look like on the orp graph?

    Thanks

It doesn't always spike enough to detect depending on the time of day and how much stuff died, but it shows up as a spike downward.

If you set an alarm below the normal diurnal variation, then it will often but not always catch it. (Ex if your ORP ranges from 320 to 380, then an alarm at 300 would be reasonable)

Thanks, would you describe it as a quick downward spike and recovery, gradual downward drop and gradual recovery? Or something else?

It depends on what exactly happened. If something pretty big died or say your AFS cap fell off and a month worth of food dropped into the tank, the spike happens pretty fast (within an hour or two) and it takes quite some time to recover (several days). If something small happens, it can take a few hours to hit the low peak and can recover within a few hours. Basically the spike downward corresponds with the level of decaying organic material and ammonia. One that has been broken down into nitrite or nitrate then the value rises back up.
