    It's not the cable itself - it's the voltage and comms that are different.

    As for adapting a network cable, it might work. But you'd be doing so at your own jeopardy, as that's not officially supported.

    I can't see a reason why it wouldn't work, Ethernet cables are made to support Power Over Ethernet to power routers and switches. I think I might give it a try when I expand my Apex to my frag tank in the basement. It probably won't be soon, but I'll let you know how it goes.

    putting usb-a's on ethernet works. i run multiple aquabus modules off one apex base unit in different floors. my max lenght of one ethernet cable wilth usb connector on is around 150m through my top floor down to my basement. give it a try. :-)

    Any off-the-shelf USB cable longer than 15' will be an active cable, which has repeaters powered by the 5v USB power. These cannot be used with an Apex. The 50' cables from usbfirewire.com are an exception to this, because they are made specifically for Apex use.

    Can someone point me to a 10' cable that I could use? I tried looking around online but I'm not sure what the differences are for USB, USB 2.0, USB 3.0, high speed, etc.
