    Power Outage Configuration

This is perturbing. A couple of months ago when I was surfing along I saw a link here at the forums to a PDF and/or Powerpoint someone had provided on configurations for power loss to optimize your system for what UPS capacity you had as well as other things. Now, I can't seem to find that thread. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

so I'm doing the "advanced scenario done right" So since my UPS is a 350 watt APC that has surge protected outlets as well, anything wrong with plugging the AC adapter into one of the surge protected plugs on the UPS?

You can plug the wall wart into the surge protected outlet. However, I really doubt you will be okay with a 350W UPS unless you have a very small tank. The maximum load (the sum of all devices wattage connected to the apex) needs to be 320 W or less or you will damage the UPS.

Then I really doubt that UPS will be sufficient. What do you have connected to the energy bar?

I wouldn't trust a UPS that low. If both heaters ever kick on, you would risk damaging the UPS. Not to mention that that size UPS will not give very much runtime (running the pump only will run for less than 2 hours). I would use a 750 VA unit as a minimum and would recommend using the 1500 VA unit for the longest possible runtime without breaking the bank.

The cyberpower 1500 VA that they sell at best buy is actually pretty small 12 X 4 X 12

Ok I just returned the 350 and picked up the CyberPower 1000va. I figured even though it is twice as much, certainly worth not having your house burn down. And I was lucky, it fit in the exact same spot!

Good call. That one will even leave you some room for future expansion if you ever add something like a chiller.

image.jpg I like the power monitoring software with this one too. Only pulling 53 watts with MP10 running, return pump, heater, skimmer, and ATO. With just MP10 I have 5.8 hours of runtime! Sweet.
So can you tell me the commands I need to use to shut everything down on the E8 once apex detects a power failure?
and where I put those commands?

Plug your wall wart into either a surge protected outlet or the outlet that feeds the UPS. Enable power monitoring.

Everything you want OFF during a power outage use the line

If Power Apex OFF 000 Then OFF

That will give you the longest running time off the UPS. It all depends on personal preference.
