    How to keep probes clean?

I'm wondering how to keep the pH, ORP and conductivity probes clean from bacterial or algae overgrowth?
I see a problem especially with coralline algae and those little hard feather worms that both like to settle on smooth glass or plastic surfaces.

What cleaning solutions are suitable to kill and remove any kind of growth without messing up the calibration?
Would NaOH (to remove algae and all other organic contaminations) and then HCL (to remove calcium deposits) be recommended?

What are the recommended cleaning intervals?

Use a soft brush to clean the tip periodically. I do this about once every 6-8 weeks using an artist's paintbrush - one with bristles about half as stiff as those of a soft toothbrush. There's no hard/fast rule - clean as you see fit or think it is needed. If a more thorough cleaning is needed, a soak in white vinegar is fine.
Please do not send me PMs with technical questions or requesting assistance - use the forums for Apex help. PM me ONLY if the matter is of a private or personal nature. Thanks.

How long would you recommend soaking them?

Depends on how much calcium is on them. 15 minutes is usually long enough unless it's caked on.

I would like to reactivate this thread to ask if I have to calibrate the probes after cleaning them with vinegar. Should I disconect them from apex to do this!? Thanks!
